Nehemiah 2.9-20: Taking Stock of What’s Broken

This week we continue our series in Nehemiah, entitled REBUILD. Finally, Nehemiah arrives at Jerusalem. At last he has opportunity to inspect the disrepair of the city wall and gates and Take Stock of What’s Broken (Nehemiah 2.9-20). He then turns to strengthen the hands of the people for the work. Today the church in the west finds itself with a similar opportunity. An opportunity to remember times of fruitfulness in the past, yes, but also note the ways our influence and institutions may need repair. We have opportunity to go around the city and take stock of what’s broken, not in order to become overwhelmed but in order to cast ourselves again on the faithfulness of our great God and strengthen our hands for the work.
