The LORD’s care when his servant feels utterly alone

We’ve all had moments in our lives when we feel utterly alone and overwhelmed. When the powers that confront us seem to prevail, and we feel alone and without help. Elijah found himself in this position in 1 Kings 19, as Queen Jezebel initiated a campaign to kill him after the showdown on Mt Carmel. Fleeing from the northern capital, Elijah ends up lying in an arid place under a shrub asking the LORD to take his life (1 Kings 19.4-5). Due to his despair, Elijah couldn’t see the clear signs of the LORD’s supreme power and kindness that surrounded him. But the LORD didn’t give up on him, but instead the LORD came to him in gentleness, to restore him. This week- ‘The LORD’s care when his servant feels utterly alone.’ And the LORD comes to us in gentleness too, when we can’t feel the power and kindness that surround us.
