The Old and New Testaments both proclaim the forgiving nature of God towards his imperfect and rebellious people. The call to Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac was an extreme test of obedience, and introduced a wonderful example of God’s mercy. For our part, we are to respect God’s forgiving nature, and by our obedience ensure we draw sparingly on God’s grace.
