God’s Soul Language: When the poor need deliverance

In today’s Psalm, Psalm 69, David’s caught in a life-threatening situation and he turns to God. David was a righteous man, and a true worshiper of God, and yet he was persecuted. Life shouldn’t be this way! If God is the true king, the sovereign ruler of the universe, he could come to David’s aid, but so far he hasn’t.
God is David’s only recourse now. He prays:
I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.  Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.

How many of us would speak like this to God? How many of us would call on God, seek after God, plead with God the way David does in this Psalm? For most of us, our prayers don’t really get this personal. They don’t get to this level of familiarity and earnestness. So, if we’re going to use our full range of emotions in our prayer life, it’s going to take practice. If you’re out of shape, you need to get into training. And to feel comfortable expressing the full range of emotions with God, we have to start somewhere.
So, call on him when you need help. Ask God to intervene in your life. Why not start calling on him today for relief, for justice, for blessing.
