This Sunday we continue our series in the Psalms: God’s Soul language, with Psalm 51.

David is struck by the realization that he has sinned against God, and against his neighbor. So he asks God to remake him. David knows how deeply evil is entrenched in his life, even from the womb. It is practically inseparable from him. And he’ll never escape it- unless God does something drastic.
Unless God does some surgery on him, and gives him a heart transplant. That’s the only way he’ll break from this cycle of evil desire, sin and guilt.

So we can take this Psalm and make it ours, because like David, we’ve thought to go our own way and act on our own wisdom, rather than follow God’s wisdom and the way of his kingdom. But this is the love of God: that he doesn’t stop at forgiveness. He wants to restore us completely to relationship with himself.
