STRIVE – resourcing our mission

It is one of life’s lessons that achievement doesn’t come automatically, or without cost.

Whatever your endeavour, whether academic, sporting, creative, or whatever it may be, working and striving is part of the deal.

In writing to his colleague, Timothy, one time, the apostle Paul talks about this. He says “That is why we labour and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God” (1 Timothy 4:10).
He has been talking to Timothy about priorities, what really matters. He has said to him that physical training is of some value, but training in godliness is of eternal value. It is worth striving for!

We as a church recognise that in doing God’s mission in the 21st century requires us to STRIVE also. One area of striving is resourcing our life together and providing for the many expressions of ministry, worship and mission that we do.

To sustain our mission into the future we need to strengthen our resource base. We have asked our people to boost their regular giving by $5 per week, if they can, to help us meet this challenge.

We have put 100 water bottles in our foyer, inviting people to take one when they respond positively to this challenge, as a physical reminder to them, and so that we all know how much progress we are making.
Half of those water bottles have already gone, but half remain. If you believe God is asking you to support and be part of the mission through St Luke’s, we invite you to take up the STRIVE challenge.

The need for the good news of Jesus is greater than ever, yet it is also easy to be diverted and distracted by so many demands or challenges we may personally face. Yet together we can see God at work and have the privilege of being part of something larger than ourselves.

It’s time for us to resource the future together.

If you prefer to give in other ways, that is greatly appreciated as well.
