Christmas – God With Us

God with us.
There is a wonderful question asked in the New Testament: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans chapter 8, verse 31).
Christmas introduces us to that same profound reality.
The world can be overwhelming in its trials and tribulations. It is distressing to see the conflicts, the sufferings, the poverty and grief experienced by so many in various parts of our globe. Our personal challenges can at times seem too much for us.
Yet it is in these very contexts that Jesus comes to be with us. He is not confined by borders, bridges or barriers. He is not limited by time or space, age or background, language or culture.
To say ‘God is with us’ is not wishful thinking or make believe. It is a glimpse of reality beyond the obvious. It is to say that God is there for us, He loves us, and wants our best. It is to say that nothing can happen to us, or come against us, even death itself, which can separate us from Him (that’s also Romans 8:39). It is to say we are never alone.
Yet it is also an invitation. Christmas is an invitation to walk with Him, follow Him and live for Him. This Jesus of the manger, God with us, is also Lord of creation. He calls us forward to live in ways that enhance life and relationships, and imprint a positive mark through our life’s journey.
So, may we celebrate Christmas well, with family and friends, for God is with us. And may we journey together in the way of Jesus for the year ahead, for God goes before us.
