The Lord’s care when under attack

2 Kings 6.8-23

This Sunday we consider the miracle at Dothan. Against all worldly odds, the Lord delivered a large force into the hands of Israel. Our enemies are not human kings or those in authority, but spiritual. Yet we are called to resist them, standing firm in Christ.

Reflection Questions

  1. Why does the King of Aram target Dothan with a special military campaign?
  2. In this account, through whom does the LORD work as he brings the army of Aram under the prophet’s influence?
  3. We don’t worship or pray to angels, yet we may ask the Lord to send them to defend us, guide us, protect us. In what circumstances might you consider prayer for the Lord to send the protection of angels?
  4. In 2 Kings 6.8-23, being the old covenant  era, the kingdom of God was focussed on the land and kingship of Israel. Since the coming of Christ the kingdom is reaching into many nations as hearts submit to Jesus. Who do we identify as ‘enemies’  to this kingdom today? Ephesians 6.10-20 might help.
