Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and mother figures in our midst.

We thank God for the gift of mothers and mother figures. One of the beautiful attributes of the Lord is his deep and compassionate care. To convey a sense of the Lord’s compassion he is likened in the Scriptures to a mother comforting her children (Isaiah 66.13). If it his high praise to liken the Lord’s care to that of a mother, it shows us just how meaningful and beautiful these special roles are. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and mother figures- whether mothers, mentors, aunties or grandmothers. We thank God for you, and may the Lord continue to use you to encourage coming generations.

God’s soul language: when my soul is dry

This Sunday we also continue our new series in the book of Psalms. Psalm 63 is a Psalm that draws to our minds the experience of King David as he fled his son Absalom when Absalom made an attempt to take the throne. David fled Jerusalem by way of the wilderness of Judah, and in this prayer used the desert as a picture of the soul dryness he felt in these trying circumstances. Yet the Lord’s love would satisfy him, when he sought it. This Sunday we consider the experience of soul dryness and the ready remedy available from God in Christ.
